We at Turn-Key Staging love a little color but we’ve found that there is a difference between a good and bad color scheme. The problem is people often go a little overboard with their favorite color or forget to keep a scheme. Here are a couple key elements that will help you find the colors best suited for your style and a few of our fav colors!
- Neutrals! If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times. Brown, grey, black, navy, white, and beige. Mix and match or stick with one but this should be your MAIN COLOR in your home.
- Pick one to two accent colors. These are your bold colors! put touches of these around the room (pillows, vases, flowers, and throws) but don’t go overboard. An all red house is overwhelming to step into and will create discomfort for guests.
- Try to keep the scheme consistent throughout your home. At least keep it the same in rooms that are open and connected. If the door closes and guests don’t spend time in the space (aka kids rooms) You can allow the colors to shift but in main spaces keep it consistent! It will give your home a designer look with very little effort.
The best way to pick your color scheme is to look for an inspiration photo then go to the hardware store and start grabbing paint chips! Before you commit to paint let the chip or test patch sit for a day or two. Natural sunlight will alter the color throughout the day. If you need a place to start here are a couple color schemes we love to use! Check them out and see if any fit your style.
